چکیده
Abstract An understanding of the diversity spatial organization in plant communities provides essential information for management and conservation planning. In this study we investigated, using a multi-species approach, how plant–plant interactions determine local structure composition set Mediterranean communities, ranging from semi-arid to subalpine habitats. Specifically, evaluated pattern (i.e., aggregation or segregation) neighborhood perennial species ISAR (individual species–area relationship) method. We also assessed beta-diversity heterogeneity among assemblages), including contribution turnover replacement) nestedness differences richness) overall beta-diversity. Our results showed that segregation decreased less productive communities. Also, found graminoids largely acted as segregators, while forbs more diverse neighborhoods than expected sites. Interestingly, not all shrub dwarf aggregated their surroundings. Finally, an increase was associated with segregated patterns species, underlining role creating islands environmental conditions. provide further insights into effect shaping highlight groups strategies should focus on order prevent loss biodiversity.

Patterns of plant species diversity following local extinction of the plains vizcacha in semi-arid scrub
We examined changes in the diversity of herbaceous plant species at colony ( ) sites of the plains vizcacha Lagostomus maximus following local extinctions of this species in semi-arid scrub of central Argentina. These large rodents live in social groups, share a communal burrow system, and forage in a common home range around the burrow system. Through intense herbivory, vizcachas create large ...
متن کاملInferring Resilience to Fragmentation-Induced Changes in Plant Communities in a Semi-Arid Mediterranean Ecosystem
Predicting the capacity of ecosystems to absorb impacts from disturbance events (resilience), including land-use intensification and landscape fragmentation, is challenging in the face of global change. Little is known about the impacts of fragmentation on ecosystem functioning from a multi-dimensional perspective (multiple traits). This study used 58 500-m linear transects to quantify changes ...
متن کاملPlant Species and Functional Types’ Diversity in Relation to Grazing in Arid and Semi-arid Rangelands, Khabr National Park, Iran
In arid and semi-arid rangelands, grazing as one of the natural or human induced processes has direct and indirect effects on structure and dynamics of plant community and ecosystems. A study was done to analyze the effects of grazing on plant species diversity and Plant Functional Types‘ (PFTs) diversity of arid and semi-arid rangelands. We analyzed plant richness and diversity data from 75 sa...
متن کاملDo biotic interactions modulate ecosystem functioning along stress gradients? Insights from semi-arid plant and biological soil crust communities.
Climate change will exacerbate the degree of abiotic stress experienced by semi-arid ecosystems. While abiotic stress profoundly affects biotic interactions, their potential role as modulators of ecosystem responses to climate change is largely unknown. Using plants and biological soil crusts, we tested the relative importance of facilitative-competitive interactions and other community attribu...
